What to pack in your suitcase for your trip to Cusco?

When you prepare for a trip it is always difficult to decide what to take, especially if we do not know much about the destination and its climate. In Cusco, the weather can be very changeable during the day and night, since, being located in the mountains, the days can be very hot while the nights become frosty.

For that reason, today we leave you a list of the essential things that you have to take in your suitcase to the imperial city.

Clothes

The first thing you have to see when choosing the clothes you are going to take on your trip to Cusco is the time you go. This region has two seasons: the dry season, from April to October, and the rainy season, from November to March.

During the rainy season, it is imperative that you wear waterproof clothing and shoes as well as warm clothes.

On the other hand, in the dry season, although the rains are not so frequent, we recommend you to always carry a rain jacket in your backpack since the Peruvian jungle is unpredictable and you can rain at any time. On the other hand, this season is recognized for its sunny days and cold nights, so you’ll have to wear both warm clothes and light clothing.

Also, if you are going to make some kind of trek, we recommend you to carry trekking poles, since they will help you to take the route with greater comfort.

Sunscreen

Did you know that Peru is the country with the highest solar radiation in the world? And within Peru, Cusco is one of the regions with the highest radiation, so the sunscreen is a must in your backpack.

Also, to be protected from radiation it is highly recommended that you wear a hat and sunglasses.

Repellent

These insects are present in all corners of the imperial city and especially in the areas of greater nature and those that are close to the jungle, as is the case of Machu Picchu.

In addition, good advice to avoid mosquito bites is to take foods high in vitamin B during the days leading up to your trip.

Backpack

To move from one place to another is essential that you have a backpack in which to carry everything you need. In this case, we recommend a backpack with a comfortable size to carry the right and necessary and be able to travel all corners of Cusco without going too heavy. Remember that in travel, less is more!

Passport

Yes, we know that it is something that, normally, you take with you in the trips, but it does not hurt to remind you since there will be many moments in which they ask for your identification.

One of these moments is the most important of your trip: the entrance to Machu Picchu. To access the citadel it is essential that you show both the entry and the passport. In addition, next to the entrance you will find a stamp of Machu Picchu that you can put on your passport so that it is recorded that you visited this Wonder of the World.

Power adapter

In Peru, we use plugs of various types (flat, round and triple) and the current is 220 volts and 60 Hertz. If the current or the plugs in your country are different, it is essential that you carry an adapter, both to charge your electronic devices and to perform a current conversion and that you do not spoil any of them.

Electronic devices

The camera MUST BE NECESSARY. What’s better than returning from a trip and reviewing all the photos to remember the moments?

In addition, we recommend you to always carry a portable charger and a large capacity card with you. We assure you that in Cusco you will not stop taking pictures of every corner you visit, so it is important that you are prepared not to run out of battery or memory space.

Money

Most establishments in Cusco, as well as travel agencies, have payment by card, so it is not necessary to carry cash in excess during the trip.

In addition, if you have euros or dollars in cash, there are many exchange houses in the center of Cusco where you can make the exchange for soles, the national currency of Peru.

Medicines

Peruvian pharmacies sell basic medicines without a prescription, while certainly more specific medicines can only be purchased with it, so if you need any in particular, we recommend that you bring your doctor’s prescription with you.

Also, in the pharmacies of Cusco, you will find the famous Sorojchi Pill, a pill that combats altitude sickness.
