We continue improving so your journey to Machu Picchu can be an amazing experience! This month of May, Inca Rail has a new available route: from San Pedro (10 minute walking distance from Cusco’s Main Square) to Machu Picchu Town by taking only one train!

This route is perfect for those who have few days in the Imperial City and want to take maximum advantage. This train departs from Downtown Cusco and the trajectory lasts only four hours.

What to See Nearby the San Pedro Train Station in Cusco

This area in Cusco is well-known by all of the tourists that arrive to the city for the famous San Pedro Market. This is the perfect place to enjoy a typical breakfast from Cusco: pork sandwiches with egg or avocado (and other ingredients), along with a big smoothie made with exotic fruits. Do not leave the city without trying them!

At this market you will also find a great variety of typical handicrafts from the region – from clothes with traditional designs to ceramic objects. Remember to leave space in your suitcase because you will want to purchase everything!

Also, a few feet from the market you can visit the San Pedro Church, a beautiful temple with important paintings from the Cusco School.

And right in front of the market is the San Pedro Train Station, the most centric part  of Cusco where you can take the train to Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Town. If you decide to travel from this train station, you will save a lot of time and will be able to enjoy your days at Cusco and surroundings to the fullest.

From the San Pedro Train Station three different types of trains depart with different schedules:

  • The 360° Machu Picchu Train: departure 5:00am – arrival to MAPI 8:48am
  • The 360° Machu Picchu Train: departure 8:38am – arrival to MAPI 1:06pm
  • The First Class Machu Picchu Train: departure 8:28am – arrival to MAPI 12:41pm
  • The Voyager Machu Picchu Train: departure 8:38am – arrival to MAPI 12:41pm

 

Returns:

  • The 360° Machu Picchu Train: departure 4:12pm – arrival to San Pedro 8:35pm
  • The First Class: departure 7:00pm – arrival to San Pedro 11:35pm
  • The Voyager: departure 7:00pm – arrival to San Pedro 11:35pm

How to Get to the San Pedro Train Station

As mentioned before, the San Pedro Train Station is located in historic Downtown Cusco. This way, if you lodge in any of the hotels or hostels in Downtown, you will be able to walk to the train station in less than 15 minutes.

If, on the contrary, your hotel or hostal is located outside of Downtown Cusco, do not worry! Any taxi driver knows where the train station is located and will be able to take you there without a problem at a very cheap price.
